ARMOUR FOR AIRMEN
HELMETS AND CHAINMAIL PROTECTING BOMBERS (United Press Association.—Copyright.) (Sydney Sun Cable.) (Received 30th January, noon.) LONDON, 29th January. The "Weekly Dispatch" states that tho Air Ministry is reviewing schemes to provide crows of long range bombing 'pJancs with bullet resisting armour. Mock aerial combats, in which camera guns exposed films, revealed that ma-chine-gunners in the bomber's cockpit offered a target of their heads, shoulders, and parts of their bodies to the down-swooping fighting 'plane, whereas the fighter's pilot was hidden by the engine, except the head. Experts recommend a metal helmet and special chainmail body armour in preference to revolving turrets and bullet-proof shields, which would bo likely to interfere with the view of fast-flying attackers.
