CANADIAN WARRANT
ALLEGED THEFT OF MUSIC A music teacher, aged 45, whose name was ordered to be suppressed, appeared in the Magistrate's Court this morning, before Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M., to answer a charge of the theft at Vancouver (British Columbia) "of sheets and books of printed music, valued at 140 dollars, the property o£ Paulerl Orchestral Director (Canada), Ltd. He pleaded not guilty. , Chief-Detective Ward said that the accused was arrested yesterday as the result of- a cable message received from Canada. Ho asked for a remand to Saturday next, and stated that it would be necesssry to wait for the arrival of au escort from Canada. Mr. W. E. Leicester, counsel for the accused, said that prior to leaving Vancouver he was a director of the company and had some £3000 worth of music arriving in the Dominion to-day. The accused had come to New Zealand for health reasons, and bad not previously been in any trouble, the present proceedings having come as a complete surprise to him. He asked that bail be allowed. Bail was granted, the Magistrate directing that the accused deposit £100 and the bills of lading for the music, and report to the police in Wellington or Dunedin daily.
