: SHAKESPEARE MEMORIAL) ; KING'S MESSAGE OP THANKS (British Official Wireless.) ' RUGBY, 27th January. The King has sent through Sir Austen Chamberlain the following message to the America*. Shakespeare Foundation: "The King commands me to express to you his sincerest thanks for your~ telegram conveying the greetings of the American Shakespeare Foundation and to assure you of the deep interest with which His Majesty has learned of their participation with the British. Shakespeare Committee in the rebuilding and endowment o£ the Memorial Theatre at Stratford-on-Avon. As patron of the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre, His Majesty welcomes the cooperation of the American Foundation and cordially appreciates the assistance which American actors and actresses are giving at benefit performances at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York. He trusts that this may have results entirely gratifying to the cause which the two organisations have at heart."
