Two hundr'c extra police formed a cordon round the gaol, in addition to a barricade, in order to prevent any popular demonstration or attempt at recue following on the extensive agitation to secure the reprieve of the condemned men. As a last effort to save Rowlands and Driseoll a telegram was sent to the Prince of Wales as President of the British Legion appealing to him to save the lives of two members of the Legion.
