IMPERIAL ART

NEW ZEALAND PICTURES FOR1 EXHIBITION The committee appointed to make a selection of works by New Zealand artists for the forthcoming second annual Imperial Exhibiton of Contemporary Art, to be held in London during April, May, and June, have selected the following pictures:— "Purakanui," by N. Welch, Wellington. | "In the Garden," by H. Linley Richardson, E.8.A., Wellington. "A Sunny Slope," by Kathleen Salmond, Otago. "The Pink Lady," by T. H. Jenkin, A.E.C.A., Otago. '' Late Afternoon, Taunoa," by Mabel Hill, Otago. "Harvest Field, Canterbury," by W. Menzies Gibb, Canterbury. "Coastguards of the Pacific," by R. Wallwork, A.R.C.A., Canterbury. "Evening Light, Arthur River," by A. E. Baxter, Canterbury. The pictures were first submitted to local committees, which made a preliminary selection. These were forwarded to Wellington for a final selection by the Central Committee. Disappointment was expressed by the Central Committee that some of the leading New Zealand artists had not submitted examples of their work, the reason no doubt being that their best pictures had already been acquired by collectors in the Dominion. It is hoped that next year a fully representative collection will bo forwarded to London.
