MINERS CEASE WORK
DISMISSAL OF TRUCKER (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WHANGABEI, 27th January. # Work at Wilson's mine, HikuWngii ceased last evening owing to the manager dismissing a trucker on account of decreased operations, the manager declining the men's proposal to share work, thus enabling the dismissed operative to earn a livelihood. A meeting of the union has been convened for to-day to consider the position. . , The manager states that the trucKer in question was only a casual hand, engaged three months ago. Approximately 150 employees are affected. , _. . A meeting of the Miners' Union today decided to lay the matter in dispute before the directors of the company at Auckland on Tuesday. Delegates were appointed for the purpose. In the meantime the mine remains idle.
