DAIRYING AND THE DRY SPELL
"The great butter producing area in the Waikato Valley and the neighbouring Thames Valley is already suffering for want of rain, and the King Country (writes the "New Zealand Herald") is rapidly turning in the same direction, causing grave anxiety as to the earnings during the remainder of the dairy season. Several districts are well supplied with rain, recent travellers in the Bay of Plenty stating that the pastures are in excellent condition in most of that area, tnus ensuring a. splendid yield of dairy produce, while the maize crops are looking very well. Heavy rain also fell a few days ago at Whangarei and Maungaturoto, but what is wanted to produce confidence in production is really good soaking rain throughout the province. Until that comes trading conditions are expected to remain very quiet."
