PERSONAL MATTERS
Captain H. S. Hilton, marine superintendent for New Zealand, for the Canadian Government merchant marine, who has been on a visit to Wellington from Auckland, left for Napier to-day. Mr. 6. M'Namara, secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department, who is at present on tour of the North Island, is expected to return to Wellington early next week. Mr. W. Grounds, chairman of the New Zealand Dairy Produce Board, has returned from the North. Mr. L. M. Ellis, Director of Forestry,1' is expected back on Monday from the Eotorua district. The Minister of Education (the Hon. B. A. Wright) will leave Wellington by the New Plymouth express on Monday morning for Hawera. He will return to Wellington on Thursday. Mr. Justice Blair, accompanied by his associate, Mr. Bichard E. Tripe (son. of the late Mr. J. A. Tripe), leaves for Auckland to-morrow. The Board of Governors of Scots College, Miramar, has appointed Mr. John Bishop, of London, to the post of music master at the college. Mr. Bishop, who was recently elected conductor of the Royal Wellington Choral Union, is now on his way from England, and will take up his duties at the college immediately upon his arrival. Mr. Justice Blair, who was recently appointed to the Supreme Court Bench, was sworn-in as Judge before the Chief Justice (Sir Charles Skerrett) at the Supreme Court to-day. Mr. • Justice Blair, accompanied by his family, an 3 Mr. E. E. Tripe, his associate, is to leave for the North by motor to-mor-row. He takes up his judicial duties at Auckland on Ist February. Lieut.-Colonel H. E. Pilkington, Quarter-master General, N.Z. Military Forces, and Lieut.-Colonel F. Symon, •Director of Artillery, were passengers by the Limited to-day from Auckland. Mr. P. S. Hargreaves has been appointed Town Clerk to the Eastbourne Borough Council, and Mr. C. L. Bishop has been appointed accountant. For four years Mr. Hargreaves was in the service of the Anglo-Egyptian Government, being stationed at Khartoum. He arrived in New Zealand six months ago. Sir George Elliot, chairman of directors of the Bank of New Zealand, recently returned from a trip abroad. He presided at a meeting of directors in Wellington this week, and returned North last night. Cable advice has been received from Sydney of the death of Mr. Thomas Sprott, general manager for Australia and New Zealand, of Messrs. Frank and Bryce, Ltd/ The late Mr. Sprott was born in County Down, Ireland, and came to Wellington about eighteen years ago. He resided in Sydney for the past ten years.
