SANDERS CUP
: [ CANTERBURY NOMINEE (Special to "The Evening Post.") CHRISTCHURCH, 26th January. The Betty has been nominated to represent Canterbury for the Sanders Cup contest. The nomination waß made as a result of a direction issued to the secretary of the Ghristchurch Sailing and Power Boat Club by its president (Mr. H. S. Hobday), his action being dictated by reasons of urgency. It was ascertained that, had not the Betty or another boat from Canterbury been nominated, the province would have been ineligible to defend possession of the trophy. . The committee of the club was to have' considered the question of representation at a committee meeting this evening, apparently in ignorance of the fact that any subsequent action would have been too late. The position regarding the time of entry, as a result of which Mr. Hobday took action, is disclosed in the following telegram from the secretary of the New Zealand Yachting Conference: —"Time for challenging already closed. Canterbury being defender does not challenge but must nominate boat not later than Thursday. Nomination roust be by association, if any, otherwise by any recognised club representing the province."
