RACING AT TRENTHAM

SPLENDID WEATHER A BIG ATTENDANCE Although a few clouds hung about this morning they mattered little to the army of Wellingtonians and visitors who wero bent on seeing the race for the "Wellington Cup and ether interesting events of the Wellington Racing Club's Meeting. Quite early a move was made to Trenthani, and it was evident tLats. the attendance was going to bo particularly good. Tho grounds and enclosures show decided signs of improvement and care, and before very long Trentham wilVnot be all efficiency in its buildings and course, but it will have a reasonable amount of floral decoration as well. The course was hard and fast, and trainers looked long and often at the clouds. Following are the details of the racing up to the time of going to press: — TRENTHAM HIGHWEIGHT HANDICAP, of 260. soys; second 40 soys, and third 20 soys from the stake; minimum weight 9.0; one mile. 6 J, J. Amorist and Flying Shot led across the top from First Sight, Botowhero, and Airtight, with Sneerer losing a good position. Amorist, Airtight, First Sight, Botowhero, and Flying Shot were the first to turn for home, and Amorist failed under pressure, Airtight coming on to win by half a length. Amorist just beat First Sight by half a head for second, with Historic fourth and Greengrocer, Botowhero, and Mandarine next. Time, 1 mm 42sec. , . (Winner trained by J. Fryer, Hawcra.)
