NEW ZEALAND BUTTER
AN AUSTRALIAN PROTEST (Eeceived 21st January, 3 p.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. In reply to a deputation representing the producers, the Minister of Markets (Mr. Patersou) said that the matter of the tariff and reciprocal arrangements with New Zealand concerning the importation of New Zealand butter to Australia, was under consideration by Cabinet. It was probable the Minister would proceed to the Dominion at an early date to confer with the New Zealand Ministry on the matter. The deputation said that the dairy farmers throughout Australia were concerned about the prospective importations by speculators df New Zealand butter, which would become increased if the duty came into operation on 15th June. Already tEere was New Zealand butter in cool stores in Australia waiting for sale at prices below those ruling for Australian butter.
