ATTEMPTED ARSON CHARGE

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Frederick Watkius, aged 60, was charged in the Police Court with having yesterday attempted to set flre to a dwellinghouse in Union street, occupied by Maria Bottles. Sub-Inspector M'Carthy stated that the caso presented some unusual features. There seemed little doubt that the accused attempted to sot the house on fire, but the reason was not at present clear. He asked for a remand till Tuesday, which was granted, to enable further inquiries to bo made.
