LETTERS.

Dear I'airiel, —Yesterday I went to the Caledonian sports, and I had a lovely time there. One cycle race had to be ridden again because they rang the bell two laps too soon. Somebody must have turned the taps off, because wo had lovely fine weather for the holidays. lam sending you some silver paper, and when I get some more paper I'will send that too.—Your loving elf, MAX. Max Garvitch, Masterton. Dear Fairiel, —I have had such a lovely time. We went to the beach on Monday, and on the way we saw the places where people store gunpowder. And then we saw the big gun and the lighthouse. And then at last we got there. With love from JOAN. Joan Munay, Ngaio. Dear Fairiel, —Yesterday my ' cousin came up from Wellington, and we drove out round the bluff to Rangatoma to shoot rabbits. It's lovely there, wtih streams, trees, rabbits, hills, and many tame little songsters, the birds. We climbed a high hill, too, and when wo reached the top wo could see little dots which were sheep, shrubs which were really large trees, and rivers and railway lines. Your loving friend THYRA. Thyra Henall, Masterton. Dear Fairiel, —We were not able to go for a picnic to-day, so I am writing to the Ring. I meant to write last week and tell you about our Sunday School Christmas tree and Santa Glaus in his Magic Cave at Collinson and Cunninghame's, in Palmerston. He gave me the pen I am writing with and a nice pencil. I got a small Meccano set .for Christmas. I have good fun making models with it. I can make windmills, cranes, signals, and lots of other things. Wo wont to Otaki boacli on Boxing Day, and on Tuesday Daddy was getting in some of his hay. He is helping a neighbour get in hay to-day. That is why we couldn't go to the beach. The gooseberries are ripe now, and whenever anyone goes past that way quite a flock of thrushes and blackbirds fly out of them into the hedge. The kittens are good friends now. The little fellow chases Patrick and plays with his tail, then Patrick turns round and rolls him over. Very best wishes for' the New Year from PRANK. Frank Itolston, Levin.
