SHEFFIELD SHIELD MATCH TIME BEATS QUEENSLAND (United Press Association.—Copyright.) SYDNEY, sth January. In tho Sheffield Shield match against Queensland, Now South Wales, in the second innings, lost eight wickets for 100' (Phillips 29). Nothling took five wickets for 39, and Thompson one for 5. New South Wales won by 363 runs on the first innings. Queensland made a remarkablo effort to win, time alone beating them, as under the Sheffield Shield rules only two hours and a half wore allowed for play to-day. Thundery weather, a very bad light, aud the wicket favoured tho bowlers when play was resumed. Nothling bowled in deadly fashion, and wicket after wicket fell. At one stage seven were down for 74 runs. The remaining batsmen, however, playing purely bn the defensive, managed to last out time, and New South Wale,s scored a lucky wir>. New South Wales, in the first innings, mado tho great score of 639, to which Queensland replied with scores of 276 and 590.
