Queensland won the toss and unaccountably sent Victoria m on a perfect wicket The scoring up to. luncheon was slow against bowling which was not dangerous, but after the adjournment the cricket | livened up and Ponsford's partnership with Hendry carried the score along at a fast rate Ponaford was batting at the top of his form, hitting solidly at everything sent down. Early after resumption after lunch Ponsford slipned, but the wicket-keeper O'Con- i nor, missed a good chance of stumping him. Notwithstanding repeated changes m bowling, Ponsford, partnered by Ryder confidently continued to punish the bowling, although the rate of scoring was much slower than the previous day. Ryder was most attractive, driving with tremendous power. Ponsford, who was tiring after his long innings, broke his own and the world's record for an individual innings in first-class cricket, and also Clem Hill's Sheffield Shield record of 365, which has stood since 1909. Ponford's innings terminated six minutes before stumps were drawn, Amos, -from his own bowling, taking a magnificent high catch Ponsford batted for 821 minutes and hit forty-two 4s. Amos was the outstandina bowler. After failing the first day to take a wicket for 67, he ended by capturing five for 81 on the second day. Ponsford has now made a century iv each of the last seven Sheffield Shield matches in which he has played.
