FIRST DEFEAT

IN INTERNATIONAL GAMES

SCOTLAND BEATS WARATAHS

(United Press Association.—Copyright.) (Sydney, Sun Cable.) LONDON, I7th Dec. Scotland defeated the Waratahs by 10 points to 8. An exciting match was watched by fifty thousand people, and resulted in the Waratahs' first defeat in international games. Their combination and clever and "resourceful attack and defence were spoilt by Scotland's very fast forward work and quick following up. Simmers was in great form. At half-time >lhe score was 5 points all. Twenty-five minutes later Simmers cross-kicked, Welsh gathering and going over; Drysdale placed the goal. The Waratahs finished strongly, and a series of great attacks .ended in Jackford scoring a clever try. Lawton's kick was only a yard wide. Two stoppages in the half were not allowed for by the referee. The Waratahs were going strongly when the whistle sounded, and might have saved the match had the time lost been played. Still, on the play, Scotland were the better side. The Waratahs were handicapped by the cold ball and frost-bound ground. Many of the side slipped when near the line Wallace especially twice coming down. The Waratahs, however,' should, with the ground difficult to turn on, have exploited the short forward punt more.
