Motueka made a very poor showing in the first innings against the bowling of Hope £\ e £ or the lMt ™k<* faUing for (68). To this Nelson replied with the big ™£ o£ 435> -t°. Wuich Neale contributed -!00, carrying his bat, with Kemiiitz (54) and Langbein (77). Motueka did only a little better in the second attempt, the side reaching 98 (Heath 32). Hope took two for 5. The annual" college match against New Plymouth High School commenced to-day in perfect weather. The scoring was on the low side, New Plymouth making 108 m the first innings (Gibbons 31, Ewart 23, lookes 16), and two for 67 (Beck 38 not out, Ewart 15). College in their first mnnjgs made 151 (A. Newmau 32, Griffin 23, Patton 18 not out, Nightingale 12, Hooper 12). Bowling for college, Buddie took six wickets for 29, A Newman three for 37, R. Newman one for 19, and for School Allan took three wickets for 54, Fookes two for 47, Andrews one for 21, Beck two for 16. The game will be continued on -Monday. AUCKLAND,' ISth December. Ino fourth ,series of. matches, in the senior cricket championship were eon- . eluded in fine weather yesterday. United Suburbs created the- surprise of the day by running North Shore closely. A feature of the day was the success of tlie veteran players, S. G. Smith and W. Brooke-Smith. Results:— Eden, 343 for four wickets, declared (Brooke-Smith 134, A. F. Weir 69 not out), and 16 for two wickets, secured a fom--point win over Graf ton, 344 and 214 (Horspool 48). For Eden, G. L. Weir took four wickets for 37. Parnell. 306 (Anthony 69, M'Coy 47), beat V.M.C.A., 196 and 168 for eight wickets (Otter 64 not out), on the first innings. " ! Ponsonby, 357 for nine wickets, declar.ed (Smith 122, Taylor 86), beat University.. 224 and 107 for two wickets (Ralfe 34, Kelly 46 not out), on the first innings. North Shore, 143 and 96 for eight wickets, beat United Suburbs, 124 and 195 for eight wickets, declared (Stotter 78, ■Hendy 51), on the first innings. For Shore, Player took six wickets for 42, and for Suburbs Williams took three wickets for 3S, Martin three for 36. The following cricketers have been selected to represent Auckland in the Walker Shield matches, to be played at Wellington in the Christmas holidays:— Gedye, It. H. Burton, Turner, C. Watts, H. R. Burton, Secombe. Martin, W. Badeley, Stalhvorthy, A. Watts, Shepherd, Fletcher, Ken\ CHRISTCHURCH, 18th December. Owing to heavy rain on prccedings days, the cricket matches for Saturday were not played, and the fifth round series of games will all rate as drawn matches.
