NEW PLYMOUTH, 18th Dec. The first Hawke Cup challenge match ot the season commenced in fine but boisterous weather yesterday, between Wangamn, the challengers, and Taranaki, the , holders. Winning the toss, Taranaki batj ted first oa a good wicket, and made 224 The coach, B. B. Wilson, was bowled by Bernau for six. Naismith played faultless cricket for 69 before being smartly thrown out in attempting a short run. Grayson, Kingston and Hockin batted their way brightly into the thirties.
