230 SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS
A meeting of the executive committee of the Trentham Scholarship War Fund was held to consider applications for bursaries for 1928: Mr; Sidney Kirkcaldie presided over;a -well.attended meeting of the executive.
,j Two hundred and eighty-three applications were; received, a large increase over previous years. '
For the balance of the period,-the fund is designed to cover, the amounts in the hands of the Public Truste will, at the present rats of interest, provide an annuity of £.3270 per annum. This amount was augmented by a contribution from the Canteen and. Regimental Trust Fund Board, but even with this assistance the executive found it necessary to decline iifty-three applications, in order that the children of deceased and disabled men might have first consideration. Two hundred and thirty bursaries were finally awarded covering the sum of £4930.
Mr. T. B. Strong, Director 'of Education, was appointed a member of the executive committee in place of Mr. John Caughley, the late Director of Education. ■•' ■ •
