QUEEN MARGARET COLLEGE

The distribution of prizes at Queen Margaret College was held -yesterday afternoon in the College Hall. The Eev. Dr. Gibb presided, and in his introductory remarks congratulated the principal, Miss Wilson, and her staff on the progress and reputation ' of the school, with which the board was very pleased.

Miss Wilson, in speaking to the parents, said it was the motive of the school to-day to educate for leisure as well as for work, and more attention was paid to subjects with an emotional expression. Teaching to-day was more than the mere imparting of knowledge, and the teacher needed other things besides the mere knowledge of the subject she taught. The principal's report showed that the school opened with a roll of 78 day girls and 29 boarders. Attendance had been very fair. Two pupils had been granted higher leaving certificates, and one was placed on the Credit List in the Senior National Scholarship Examination. Another pupil won a Junior National Scholarship, and 9 girla passed their proficiency examination.

The-prizes were presented by Lady Fergusson, and several songs.and a drill display were given by the girls, while samples of some of the school work- — sewing, drawing, and illustrated exercise books, were set' out in the classrooms for inspection by the visitors.
