NEW WINTER RESORT
The little Greek island of Corfu, situated between the "heel" of Italy and the coast of Albania and Greece, may soon rank with Nice, Monte Carlo, Venice, the .Lido, Ragusa.and other, semi-tropical winter retreats as a fashionable pleasure and gambling resort. .... .'• • . •
The Greek Government has accepted an offer of ~\ group of foreign capitalists, including Americans, to build here a luxurious hotel, a casino, and other buildings. Those behind the scheme have also offered to purchase fhe famous Aehilleion Palace,'- formerly the home of the German Emperor, which was used as an American hospital after the Armistice. In return for the privilege of exploiting the island, the promoters propose to 6pend £400,000 during twenty-five years, after which the various enterprises become the property of the States. Fifteen per cent, of the profits from the Casino will be allotted to Corfu for public improvements.
