THE LEAGUE COUNCIL
DOMINIONS SECURE FIRST SEAT.
For the first time the British Dominions Overseas havo a direct representative on .the Council of the League of Nations. Hitherto they have had to be content with the fact that Great Britain held a permanent seat ana thereby represented the whole of the British Empire. Last month tho Assembly of the League met to fill three vacancies caused by the retirement of Belgium, Czecho-Slovakia, and Salvador from non-permanent seats. Belgium, by a vote of the Assembly at its morning Bitting, had been declared non-eligible for re-election. The result of the voting was as follows: — Cuba , ' 40 Finland 33 Canada 26 These three countries stood at tho lead of the poll on the first ballot, and were therefore declared elected for a term of three years. The votes for Jhe other .competitors were:— Greece 23 Portugal 1G Uruguay .-, 3 Denmark :.'...' 2 Switzerland ........ 1 Siam .< 1 Haiti 1 The full composition of the Council Is now as follows:' PERMANENT SEATS. Great Britain Italy, France, .... Japan. Germany, NON-PEBMANENT SEATS. Poland, ■ Canada, Chili, Cuba, Holland, . Finland, Rumania, " Columbia. China, ;. . . _,_^
