UNEMPLOYMENT IN FRANCE
FIGURES DECREASING.
The unemployment figures in Franco since 6th March last have just been published by the International Labour Office. While the number of persons in receipt of relief from unemployment funds was 79,159 at the end of March, as compared with 61,486 at the end of April, and 44,374 at the end of May, by the Ist June it had fallen to 26,802. Similarly, the number of unemployed registered at employment exchanges fell from 84,000 to 36,000 during the same period.
On the other hand, some increase is recorded in controlled immigration due almost entirely to the admission of agricultural workers. From the beginning of the year to 14th May, 39,440 alien workers left the country and 3302 were admitted. Between "l4th May and 4th June the situation was reversed, 5538 workers leaving the country and 7593 entering, 7G94 of the latter heing agricultural workers. From 4th to IStli June the departures (3418) again exceeded arrivals (1549, including 10.03 agricultural workers). The total figures as from the beginning of the year show 45,306 departures as against 13,044 arrivals.
