A depression of the westerly type, which has been situated over the southern Tasman Sea during the past two days, has apparently moved In more southern latitudes on reaching New Zealand. It has accounted for unsettled conditions and rain in the western districts south from Cape Egmont and in the far South, but elsewhere tho weather, though cloudy at times, has continued fair. Strong north-westerly winds have prevailed, backing to south-west since last night at many places in tho South Island.
