RECORD TONNAGE AFLOAT

. LONDON, 24th October. The fact that there was a record of thirty million tons of shipping afloat in June, four and a quarter millions of which were motor-ships, is revealed in Lloyd's annual return. In addition there were two million tons under construction. New plans were laid down last year for 490 vessels, aggregating 1,839,000 tons, the highest since 1920. Sixty-six per cent, of these will be built' in Britain. ■ ■ ' •
