THE REPTILE VOGUE
Reptile skins are taking an importr ant place in the world of -fashion, but now they are used to make complete garments or shoes, as imitations have made lizard and snake-skin trimmings almost too popular. Nothing is smarter than a snake-skin bag, or walking shoes and coats of "karung" are much liked for motoring, as they are soft, unchangeable in colour and marking, and do not hold the dust like a fabric. The fact that a regular industry has been established iv. India to hunt and skin the reptiles shows that along lease of favour for these leathers is anticipated. Dogs whose teeth were filed short were at first used by Trench hunters to catch the lizards or-snakes but this methods resulted in so many damaged skins that now the reptiles are caught by hand. A forked stick is used to immobilise the snakes, which are then killed by a blow on the head Lizards are easily captured %y. a lasso as the lizard of India is a gentle, confiding creature. . The. snakes'are taken only at certain seasons, a'few weeks after they have shed their old skins.
