WELLINGTON CLUB'S OPENJNG
Tinder ideal weather conditions, m»nfl bowling clubs in and about Wellington: opened their seasons this afternoon, and from now on the game will be in full swing. •.-;''
The ceremony at the Wellington. Club, which took place in the presence of a large number of members, visitingmembers, and friends, was performed by. the president (Captain C. M'Arthur). After extending a welcome to all, he referred to the loss the club had sustained during the year by the deaths of Captain Houldsworth and Messrs. W. W. Grenfell, C. Knapp, W. E. Muir, and Richards, all old and very highly respected members. The captain also referred to the gift of some jerseys to the club by Mr. James Livingstone, a member of the team of British bowlers that recently visited the Dominion; and also to the presentation; of some beautiful rose bushes and plants by Mr.E. Hill, whose son had spent so much time in improving the entrance to ' the grounds. In conclusion, he paid a' tribute to the work of the ladies. ; ■• - Mr. Marcus Marks, president of the centre, also spoke,, after which Mrs. M'Arthur threw up the. first jack, and play was (commenced. ' Afternoon tea was served by a committee of ladies, under the direction of Mesdames M'Arthur, A.-Lulham, and-I.
