WARATAHS WIN AGAIN

DULL GAME IN THE NORTH

(United Press Association.—Copy right. 1 LONDON, Bth October. The "Waratahs defeated Yorkshire and Cumberland by 9 points to 3—a penalty goal and two tries to one try. Ten thousand people watched a dull game,,and it was considered that the Waratahs were fortunate to be leading at the interval as the result of au unconverted try by Egan. Their handling left much to be desired, while the heavier forwards were seldom seen to advantage in the scrums. In the second spell the Counties made desperate rallies, but to ,no purpose. Gordon broke away and scored a try, which was not converted. This was followed by a penalty goal by liawton. Near the end ledger scored a try for the Counties.

A feature'of the match, which was singularly devoid of open play, was the lengthy kicking, which the Waratahs exploited with success. The play did not provide any thrills, principally owing to deadly tackling. The Waratahs' full-back (Boss) was brilliant, while the three-quarters, King and Egan, were outstanding; Lawton was excellent at five-eighth', receiving splendid support from Meagher. The Counties were outclassed in every department except the forwards.
