PROLONGED RAINS
FLOODS IN NORTH-WEST

KUGBY, 24th September. Tho < recent prolonged rains have caused widespread floods, /with extensive damage, to crops and live stock, in the North of England, and many parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland. Great inconvenience to traffic of ail descriptions has been caused. Along tho whole of the London-Midland and Scottish railway line from Glasgow to Crewe,"a distance of over 250 miles, wide areas of land are under water. In the Lake District rain has not. ceased 1 for over 60 hours, and in some places the gauges.have registered five or six inches. Heavy rains continue throughout the British Isles. One of the.cities which has been most affected is Edinburgh, , many parts of which arc badly flooded; causing considerable distress.
