THE PERILS OF YOUTH.

A large company of women and girls gathered at the Town Hall Conceit Chamber yesterday afternoon to hear Dr. W. 11. Pcttifs lecture on "The Perils of Early YVomnnhoocl." Mrs. D. 0. M'Clay occupied the chair. The lecturer emphasised the urgent need for instruction and warning being given by mothers to their daughters regarding the' social dangers-to which they were subjected. In the evening there was a large attendance of men to hear the address; "The Perils of Early Manhood." The Hon. E. A. Wright (Minister of Education), who was in the chair, expressed his great pleasure in presiding- ut' aimoetihg where such a necessary subject was being .handled by' a medical practitioner. > H was his opinion that such instruction given in a proper way was invaluable to ,;young men. Tn opening his lecture, Dr. Pettit said that it was strange to him that mud. time was spent teaching children subjects of comparatively little value to them, while this .subject of such vital importance to all was oftou left untouched. Dr. Pettit will lecture in the Concert Chamber to-night on ''Docs Science. Contradict the Bible?".
