St. A lino's Jubileo Carnival, which is being licld to laiso money for tho church rebuilding fund, was oponcd on Saturday night by Mr. It., M'Keon, M.I 1. Mr. M'Koen said "bo understood thut St. Anno's, parish hs^d collected tho Rocond largest nmount of money for tho Lowlsham Hospital, nnd ho J!olt sure that tho prosont effort would bo ontiroty succossful. -Mr. W. 11. Giles, chairman of tho carnival^ oflicials, said that tlio dobt on tho parish was now wiped out, and it was hoped to build a church worthy of tho flno property on which it would 'stand. Father Kelly also spoke. Last Wodncsdny was tho silver jublloo of its constitution ias a soparato parish. Prior to 1902 St. Anno's was attached to tho Boulcott stroct parish, but tho j'apidly increasing population roquirod a rosldcnfpiiost, and tho ltov. Father A ins worth, S.M. (who is at prosont hond of tho Marlst Missioncrs in Austrnliu) was appointed to tho now pariah. Fivo years.later Father Ainsworth waH succoeded by tho Into Yon. Archdeacon Dovoy, S.A(., who continued tho work of progress by buying proporty in Kilbirriio, Seatoun, nnd Island Bay, and building churches and schools in thoso districts. Tho parish grow to such ■> an extent thnft it was nocossary for four priests to bo in rosidonco, and «uch splendid institutions as tho Homo of Compassion, tho Sacred Hoart Collogo of_ Island IJay, convents at Groon street and Kilblmio, nnd tho Boys' Collogo, Soatoun, woro orcctod within tho parish. Early in 1020 tho parish was dividod into tl»eo, Kilbirnlo, Nowtown, and Island Bay becoming soparato parlshos. Tho Kov. Fathor Jolin Kelly is now in 'charge of St. Anno's parish, and. last year decided that somolhing should ' bo' done to bring tho church up-to-date, but it wus finally decided that ,it 'would bo bottor to linvo n now church thnn to patch up tlio present structure. ' A committee ha« boon working hard for twolvo months raising tho funds ,for that purpose, and with tho' monoy that comes in from tho jubileo fair it Is hoped that an curly start wl^l bo possible on a part of tho now church. Thoro aro mauy'woll-stoclcod stalls at tho bazaar and. side-shows' which are drawing good crowds. On Saturday, a dancing display by pupils of Mlss Kathleen O'Brlon was much onjoyod.
