JAPANESE ARRESTED
PROTEST TO AUTHORITIES

" SHANGHAI, "25th September. Strained relations prevail between Japanese residents in' the International Settlement- and the municipal authorities * 'as the result of the arrest of two Japanesemarines, members of a landing party, by Chinese' policemen during a street disturbance. Believing that the marines assaulted a Chinese youth, the police locked them up. Japanese residents stormed the police station, demanding their release. Later representatives of the Japanese met the Commissioner of Police, and matters were' righted officially, but the tension 'remains.
