SATURDAY'S RACING

PEOSPECTS FOR TO-MORROW

3fesf4£rs &»£■•: Sir &wf Wth * S°-'id task- At NaS^ f V, 1? opposite is the case in re- 1 ■ESn at*}?" *ai? dividends should be Wof the/fhburton fixture a num* Der of the good horses in the South will be having their first • run of the season The g Olng at EHerriie will be soft, b"t be^fa^der.* tW° PW '*<"* IN THE NORTH. he eD ,—cc' 17hich °Pens Proceedings at Ellershe to-morrow, is the first divided race on which the totalisator has been opened only once for a long time packers have to pick the winner of each division m one, and the winners of each division will be treated as dead-heaters tor .the race so far as the calculation of dividends, are concerned. Star God may be favourite, and as the first division does pot appear to be as strong as the second he may show up well. Brampton and Koyal Doulton appeal most of the ■econd division. , In the Grey Lynn Hurdles, Rahepoto and Jiamehameha should carry plenty of support. They were outstanding performers amongst the hack hurdlers racing at Ellershe m June, York Abbey/however » he. carries the confidence of his connections, have far too much pace lor this field. • ■ As^practicaliy.all the acceptors irt the .Members. Handicap are Ellerslie trained they have no•advantage in condition one over the other. Automne, who finished third to Dehghtment and King Lv at the Pakuranga Hunt Meeting, should have plenty of friends. King Smock and Ti -^Tree appeal most, however, although one is rather.in the dark as to their condition. King Smock is a solid galloper, and Ti Tree is particularly favourably handicapped considering her form last year as a two-year-old. The field is. one of decidedly mixed quality, to which is added the unknown quantity o£ condition. Te Monanui shpuld account for Star Stranger if the latter runs in the Avondale Qup, and put up' a good performance for all his 9.5.. Mask appeals more than Te Kara at 8.12. Eden Hall has only to race B? M.t0 o £ IS ]' cry best t0 he hartl to beat with 8.2. Alloway, Royal Mint, and Cohesion will all have plenty of friends, and they are well seasoned with racing, while .Lord Star is by no means a forlorn hope. Eden Hall, Mask, and Te Monanui way all show up well. The two-year-old race, the Avoudale htokes, may provide a surprise, but on ■what is known of the field the pair who must be accorded the popular vote are Kmghtlike and Freehold. Prince Humphrey has. yet to start in a race, but v anything beats the pair named it may be the Australian-bred youngster. n Some really good sprinters are "engaged in the Flying Stakes, including quite a number of proved mudlarks. Benzora and Delightment at the weights may meet their match in this field, and the three-year-old brigade, Laughing Prince, Paganelli, Covent Garden; and In the Shade, are all sure to be well supported. Hoarin and Tinokoa both have to be considered on a muddy track, while several of the others cannot be dismissed lightly. It ■ look'? the hardest race of the day, and luck may be a prime factor. Laughing Prince, Covent Garden, and Tinokoa may show up at the end. The Swanson Handicap field is not of rery high class, and the Taranaki hack Sovena might more than hold her own. Branson and Modest Boy may prove the best of the Northerners. Quite a good field is due to contest the Henderson Handicap, and Mr. G/M. Cur- j rie's pair, Damaris and Thaw, should be good favourites. If King Smock is started in this race in preference to the

Members' Handicap he may be the best of the others. Vivo is a likely lightweight to spring a surprise. IN HAWKES BAY. Proceedings at Napier Park -will commence with the two-year-old event, in which Tea Miss and Raasay may monopobse most attention. Tea Miss, although shji has not raced, has been to the barrier and sprinted down the straight on race day. Not much is known about the six in the Scurry, but Torquil and Cloyne have been galloping well on the track. Peshwa has the best form of the- five m to. Gieenmeadows Hack Hurdles, but Ballyfarnon's form at Dannevirke suggested possible improvement yet. If the Park Stakes is solidly run from end to end Tresham may beat Bennanee, although the latter is capable of* making all his own running and win. He runs his best races that way. David Garrick at his best would have to be considered at 7.0. He may not be seasoned enough yet. Of the Ahuriri Hack Handicap field Essential, Excess, and Abisogne all raced well at Dannevirke. King Midas galloped well last year, but will be making his first appearance for the eeason.' If right he would be very hard to beat in this field. Chips ran much below her Wanganui form at Dannevirke. Lipsol and Starboard Light may monopolise the attention of backers 'n the Taradale Highweight. Kaiti ran such a great race amongst the first-class sprinters at Wanganui that he should see a short price in the Railway Handicap. Cosmetic, who appears to be improving, may trouble him most. Ganymede may be the best of the mixed I lot in the County Hack Handicap. Merle I at her best would make things interest- ! ingTHE SOUtH ISLAND. The North has an interest in the Ash- | burton Handicap in Royal Game. If C. Emerson :s allowed to emulate R. Reed's Dannevirke tactics, Royal Game will give the opposition something to think about. Of the others the disappointing Chickwheat may make amends, and Beau Geste has only to repeat his National form to be dangerous. . Note and Moratorium may show up in the Longbeach Hack Handicap, while the course may allow Scoff to see out five furlongs in the Trial Plate. Wreath of Myrtle, Satrap, and Master Clarence appeal most in the Fairfield Hack Handicap, and Silver Coot has only to reproduce his best two-year-old form to show up in the Farewell Handicap. He has been galloping very well at Riccarton.
