HUTT RIVER BOARD

Mr. W. T. Strand presided over a meeting of the Hutfc River Board yesterday. It, was decided to purchase 17 acres of lana from August Bros., at £11 10s per acre. . A letter was received from a ratepayer complaining of the dumping of rubbish near the Melling Bridge. Scrap iron and rubbish were being tipped into the river and spoiling an excellent recreation locality. It was decided to issue a warning against the continuance of the practice. '■- Mr. Strand mentioned a resolution that had been passed by the Petone Borough Council to the effect that when' Gear Island was finally settled -as a sports area, control of the area should be vested in a board which would comprise representatives of the various local bodies, Petone included. The board instructed its solicitor to oppose this, and it was mentioned that Petone was entitled to representation on the River Board./
