UNEMPLOYMENT
POSITION IN CHRISTCHURCH
(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") CHKISTCHUBCH, This Day. After a long discussion at a meeting of the Citizens' Unemployment Committee yesterday it. was decided to launch a fresh appeal for public subscriptions immediately, in order that it may be able to continue its activtiies for the relief of unemployment. The reports submitted to the committee showed that the number of men registered at the Government Labour Bureau was 420, an increase of 28 since the previous week, and that only about 100 men could be engaged by the City Council in connection with the works under its relief of unemployment fund. •The funds of the committee were practically exhausted. The Finance Committee reported that after paying this week's wages only about £300 or £400 would remain. To show its faith in the generosity of the public the committee decided to pu^ on 100 men this week, trusting that sufficient money would be forthcoming to enable their wages to be paid.
