FATAL SKID

CARTERTON, -This Day. A fatal accident occurred at Cross Creek, on Featherston road, on Saturday at 7.30 p.m. Three men, Keg. Haylock, a train tester, William Monteith, an engine driver, and N. Doohan, a labourer, all young men employed by the Railway Department at Cross Creek, were returning from .Featherston on Haylock's motor-cycle and side-car. Haylock was driving, Monteith was in the side-ear, and Doohan on the back The cycle skidded on some loose metal and chashed into a motor-lorry.. Haylock and Doohan were knocked off tho former falling between the cycle and tho side car. It is thought that both knocked their heads on the lorry They were taken to the Greytown Hospital, where Haylock died at 3.30 yesterday. Doohan's condition is still considered serious. Monteith was uninjured, ' ' .
