THE HEMP POSITION.
Ince.3aant wet weather during the month of August has brought hemp production almost. to a standstill, and as a result of this inactivity very little business has been passing. Not only are several mills in the Manawatu district on the point of opening for the season, but there is a fair amount of fibre in the paddocks awaiting fine weather before it can be dealt with. When this is being handled a.nd the mills about to reopen are iv operation there should be a very good output during the next week or so. The market is fairly good, although the best customers for high fair, the American manufacturers, have been rather quiet of late, but the bulk of the hemp put out has been low fair, for which there is a good demand from London. Near at hand prospects are not very bright on account of the over-accumulation of supplies of Mexican sisal. Unless the ■ unexpected happens, no material improvement of the market is looked for until a little later on in the season.
