PINE OP £15 IMPOSED

John Hayes, a carrier, for whom Mr. A. "Wiren appeared, pleaded guilty in tho Magistrate's Court to-day to having driven a motor-lorry on the Ngahauranga Gorge road while in a state of intoxication. ■.■

Sub-Inspector Harvey, said that at 5.20 p.m. on the 2nd August the defendant n who carried on business between Johnsonville and Wellington, was driving through the gorge when he collided with another lorry, which was slightly damaged. It was then seen that he was intoxicated. The SubInspector added that the accused's own lorry had been damaged to the extent of between £30 or £40. Hayes had a list of previous convictions, and it might be advisable to cancel his license.

Mr. E. Page, S.M., imposed a fine of £15, in default one month's imprisonment, and suspended the accused's license for two years.
