LONDON, sth August. Lloyd's Buenos Aires representative reports that the steamer Mamuji, bound from Wellington to London, was apparently in distress early this morning, in. £¥??* 49-42de S- south, longitude 53.35deg. west.

The steamer "Argentine" and also the Kiva Davia wireless station picked up her "SOS" call.

.With a crew numbering 75 all told the Mamari left Wellington on 19tU July for London, via Teneriffe, and, according to the bearings given in the message received this morning, is approximately off the east coast of the Falkland Islands. She has no passengerson board, and her cargo consists of refrigerated shipments of meat and dairj* produce, as well as general cargo. There is no livestock on board.

The ship's surgeon, Dr. A. E. Mow, lem, is a son of Mr. Mowlem, of Napier, and he is not regularly employer! in this capacity, but only for the trip Home.

The Mamari is a steel twin-screw vessel of 8114 tons gross, 455 ft in length, 56ft in breadth, aud 30ft 6in in depth. She was built by Harland and Wolff in 1904, and is owned by the Shaw, SavilJ, and Albion Company. Another steameiwhich belongs to the same eompanv, and which should be very near the Mamari, is the Matakana, which sailed, from Port Chalmers on 20th July for London, via Montevideo and Teneriffc.

Captain H. Falconer is in coinmanid of the Mamari, and with him arc the' following officers: —Chief, Mr. H. Thompson; second, Mr. B. Moffatt; third, Mr. P. Campbell; wireless operator, Mr. A. Copeland; cadet, Mr. J. Napier; surgeon, Dr. A. A. Mowleni; chief engineer, Mr. E. Craig; second, Mr. B. Evans; third, Mr. "W. Bichardson; fourth, Mr. G. Simon; fifth, Mr. A« M'Niven; sixth, Mr. J. Brew; seveath, Mr. C. Crosby; first refrigerating.engiJ neer, Mr. A. E. Kolls; second, -Mr. l£ Kerr; chief steward, Mr. F. Brojra, Tse remainder of the crew number 58.
