THE BURWOOD MURDER

CHBISTCHURCH, This Day. A crowd of over two hundred, about one-third of -whom were women, assembled outside the Magistrate's Court in anticipation of seeing Charles William Boakes, the aUeged murderer of .Mien Gwendoline Scarff. The accused was brought in a motor-car and the sightseers were disappointed. Over a hundred people were unable to gain admission to the Court. The accused appeared to be very calm and easy as the charges were read. Mr. Brown, who appeared for the prosecution, asked for a remand, and it was granted till 9 a.m. oil 12th August, on the understanding that the case will not be gone on with then.
During National Week the Court sits at the Police Station, at 9 a.m..to deal with usual daily police cases. The accused was taken away by car under the escort of three policemen.
