The. Wellington District year ends on 30th September; get busy, troops, and fill up vacancies in Seouters, Scouts, and Cubs. Scouting is an inclusive brotherhood, and no boy should be turned away on .the score of no room.

New troops lately formed are the Mayflower (Newtown), Sea Scouts, Petone, troops at Trenthatn, Hutt Valley, and Lower Hutt'Methodist, while Wesley, Taranaki Street, Johnsonville Presbyterian, and: Sea Scouts, Plimmerton, are forming. ■

The troop which has been formed in connection with the Methodist Church, Lower Hutt, had a well attended meeting of parents, forming a committee, with the Rev. C. H. Olds as chairman. Mr. Stonehouse becomes Scoutmaster on usual probation," with Norman Smith as A.S.M. This, troop will be known as Lower Hutt (Methodist), and will meet in the church schoolroom. A number of the committee of the Lower Hutt No. 1 Troop parents were also present.

The Petone Sea Scouts are moving on. The number required—3o boys—bids fair to be reached next Thursday. The Rev. Mr. Loan has joined the committee, and is to be chaplain. A game of North v. South was keenly contested, affording much amusement.

At the quarterly meeting last Monday it was decided to hold the annual competitions' on the 12th and 19th November, conditions similar to last year. Mr. Swinson has presented a fine cup for competition for flag signalling. Some of the lately formed troops are out after this trophy, so wake up, Scouts, for you will all' have to look to your laurels. :

The Miramar Troop mustered 50 Scouts and Cubs last Friday, despite the 'wet. Five Tenderpads were invested into the troop, after which : Scoutmaster Dickson and Cubmaster Free, along with an assist-, ant Scoutmaster, were presented with their warrants by the District Commissioner under the impressive ceremony of, Ipise. Mr. Sunn and a number of committeemen and ladies were present, and after the work and ceremonies they saw the boys take lively part in several new Scout games. '• ■

St. Jude's Cub Pack is coming on splendidly. There are now 32 boys on 'the roll, 28 being on -parade last meeting night. The boys are keen and doing good work. The following boys passed their tests last month:—First Star, F. Ponder, E. Topp, R. Spurway; Tenderpad, F. Wade, B. Smith, L. Shand, G. Smith, R. Green, H. Smith, A. Smith, and B. Kiinmins. The Terrace Troop has been working hard. Thanks to the kindness of the St. John's Ambulance Association, instructors werersent weekly to give a course of first aid, extending oven ten weeks, after which the Scouts who had taken the course were examined for the Ambulance Badge, as the result of which the badge was presented to eleveV members of the troop last Tuesday evening, in the presence of members of the committee and other friends. Theboys who acted\as patients for the St. John's •Ambulance had a very enjoyable time, except due scout perhaps, who was undressed and put to bed. I.am. afraid he is rather shy; therefore we had better not mention names. On Ist September, this troop is'holding its annual ■ concert in the V.M.C.A. Assembly Hall. The proceeds, will be in aid of the ".troop's-funds, admittance Is, proceedings to commence at 7.30 p.m. ■■-'■- v C Last Friday night the Island Bay Troop held its usual weekly parade. There was a good attendance of both Scouts and Cubs. The Cub Pac:e received a visit from District Cubmaster Green, who gave the Cubs some useful information in connection with their work. This visit was very -much appreciated by the Cubs and their officers. The Scout Troop received a visit from Commissioner Paterson (Girl Guides). The Commissioner inspected the troop, and was accompanied by Captain Collet^ (St. Hilda's Guide Company). The Commissioner congratulated the' boys on their smart appearance and general efficiency. After the inspection the Scoutmaster made a few remarks in reference to Commissioner Paterson, and extended her a' welcome from the Island Bay Troop and Pack. This Friday night the Island Bay Scouts and Cubs will attend the second bir, thday of the St. Hilda's Guide Troop. The Troop and Pack will meet at 7 p.m. outside the St. Hilda's Hall. Scoutmaster E. Heath (Institute) also paid a snort visit to the troop. After the troop dismissed, the\Troop Cabinet met for. a general discussion on troop matters. This meeting ■ proved helpful to all concerned. It was of a'nature to enotrarage the boys to take a keener interest in the welfare o£ the troop as a whole. This Friday the Troop Committee will meet at 8 p.m. in the ante-room, St. Hilda's Hall. Scouts" and Cubs,; are asked to start collecting goods for a monster jumble sale to be held soon.
