LIBERAL PARTY
CONFERENCE IN WELLINGTON
'PROCEEDING SATISFACTORILY'
A conference of those interested in tho revival of the New Zealand Liberal Party, called by Mr. W. A. Veitch, M.P. for AYanganui, took place in the Dominion Farmers' Instituts to-day. There was an attendance of about twenty. The proceedings were not open to the Press, but when the adjournment was taken at 1 o'clock this afternoon, after a sitting of two hours, Mr. Veitch, who was elected to the chair, made a brief statement to a representative of "The Post." » "The conference," said Mr. Veitch, "is a thoroughly representative one, and I am highly pleased at the response made to my invitations to be present. There is a great deal of business to be done, and all I can say at present is that the conference is proceeding along very satisfactory lines."
The conference is meeting again at 3.30 p.m., and it is doubtful whether it will be possible to put through all business to-day.
It is understood that Mr. Veitch is tho only member of Parliament present at the -conference. Those present include Mr. S. G. Smith, ex-M.P for Taranaki, and Mr. A. B. Sievwright, who contested the. Wellington South seat in the interests of the Nationalist Party at the last General Election. Tho principal business of the conference, it is stated, will be the drawing up of a constitution, and it is uuderstood that a special committee was set up this morning to go into this question.
