THE BANKRUPTCY BILL
(By Telegraph.)
(Special to "The Evening Post.")
AUCKLAND, This Day. The provisions of the ' Bankruptcy Amendment Bill were discussed by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce yesterday. The Bill had been examined by the executive of the chamber, and it was decided to write to the Associated Chambers of Commerce stating that in the opinion of the Auckland executive the enforcing of Section 6 of the Bill would constitute a retrograde step, as publicity was in many cases a useful deterrent. The section provides that except by consent of the Court, the Assignee or Magistrate, as the case may be, and subject to such conditions as may be prescribed, it shall not be lawful for a report of the proceedings or of any matter arising in the course of an examination to be published. The penalty for so doing it is proposed should be £.100.
The executive also emphasised the need of more satisfactory provision being made for dealing with absconding debtors. It was also suggested that registration of private assignments was a matter which merited attention.
