DEATH OF DOCTOR

TOOK DOSE OF POISON

DUNEDIN, This Day. Dr. Angus M'Phsil Marshall, of 43, Moray place, Dunedin, died suddenly at his residence on Sunday night, and from the evidence available it appears that he took a dose of poison and died half an hour later.

In consequence of a statement made by Dr. Marshall to his wife at about a •quarter past 10 p.m., Dr. W. Marshall Macdcmald' and Dr. -Tonkins wero sumn.oned. ■ When they arrived at Dr. Marshall's homo about ten minutes later they found the doctor unconscious, but although they applied tho usual remedies their efforts were of no avail. The 1 late Dr. Marshall was 34 years o± age, ana he leaves a wife and two children. Last week he resigned from the position: of venereal diseases officer and anaesthetist at tho Dunedin Hospital.

Alexander Fleming Marshall, a df ntal student, brother of deceased, said he was with his brother on Sunday right Deceased seemed to bo in his usuai health and. spirits. When supper was ready witness went to summon his brother, who was in the treatment room on the ground floor. Witness went into the room, but noticed nothing -unusual. I Mrs. Marshall then joined them, and they were talking together iv the same room for about ten minutes. Mrs Marshall and witness then left and wont upstairs. The deceased then came upstaxrs to the .breakfast room and told Airs. Marshall lie wanted zo speak to her A few minutes latrr Mrs. Marshall came back to witness in a great state, and told him her husband had taken something. The deceased had no financial or other worries that witness -knew about.

Dr. William Marshall Macdonald said that Dr Jenkins and himself applied the usual remedies, but the heart failed suddenly ntter about ton minutes' treatment. The facts stated to witness were so consistent with the view that iisor eaSW, Ilad bt ken a lar 8e dose of poison. When witness arrived Dr. Marshall was unconscious, and remained so until he died.

The inquest'was adjourned.
