TIMBER WORKERS
ANNUAL CONFERENCE
The annual conference of the New Zealand Timber Workers' Federation was opened in the Trades Hall to-day. The president, Mr. T. o'Byrne, presided. Delegates present were: Messrs. E. Elliott, E. Parls.ne, V. H. T. Goodman (Canterbury); T. O'Byrne and J. Alsweiler (Southland); E. A. Lucas and T. A. Brown (Otago); A. E. South (New Plymouth); P. O'Kourk and T. Shout (King Country); F. li. Turley and B. Topp (Westland). Mr. Turley also represented Nelson and South Canterbury.
Mr. O'Byrne briefly addressed the delegates and referred to the condition of the timber industry at the present time. The industry, he said, required watching, and tlie interests of the timber workers would have to be safeguarded.
Amoug the remits to be discussed are: (a) Importation of foreign timbers; (b) workers' compensation; (c) national agreement for timber workers in New Zealand.
The conference will probably last four days.
