APPEAL TO RUSSIA
TO RETURN TO THE FOLD
LONDON, 29th July, ahe formation of a "League Against the Enemies of World Order" was mooted at a luncheon attended by the Earl of Birkenhead, Lord Buckmaster, Viscount Burnham, Dean Inge, and other influential people. The speakers expressed the need lor & non-party organisation for the purpose of defending the two main supports of civilisation, namely, religion and property, from attacks from any quarter, particularly from abroad.
Lord Birkenhead, emphasising that he wag not present in a Ministerial capacity, made what the "Morning Post describes as practically an appeal to Russia to return to the fold of civilised nations, observing tho principles of commercial integrity, and leaving tlic world free to develop its own institutions. He added that he was unable to conceive how those responsible for the policy in Russia could eontemplato a future in which they would bo marooned.
