APPEALS FOE ASSISTANCE

A meeting of the executive of'tfca War Belief Association of "Wellington,' was held yesterday. Mr. C. M. Lukepr'e^ sided and others present were; Messrs* D. M'Laren, A. Macintosh, C. Watson,; and A. O. Leach (secretary). -T; _ The Finance Committee reported-tjhati it had held one ordinary and five emergency meetings Bince the last meeting of the executive on 23rd June.- In addition to its- ordinary function of Controlling the financial affairs of the rassociation, it has dealt with 27 applications for monetary assistance by way of loans. Of .those four were old,"and!! 23 were new applications; the former, were revised In connection with amendments to the original "terms of repayment, the amount involved being £480, whilst the unpaid balances totalled £373 lls B<L Of the new applications sir were approved arid, the 17 remaining (none of which disclosed any evidence! of war disability) were declined. The value of the new applications amount, ed to £916, of which £111 was approved and £805 declined, whilst the gross total of all the applications dealt with! was £1396. :;..."■ " A report from the Applications Coin, mittee stated that it had met" on occasions since the executive last n>et."
