HOW TO SEW A KNITTED SEAM
To ensure a flat seam the best method is as follows: Beginning at the top work downwards, using a blunt embroidery noodle. Hold the two edges of knitting together over the first finger of the left hand and, after joining the working thread at the left seam, pass the needle from tho underside to tho wrong side of knitting, which is uppermost, draw the thread up closely but not tightly, cross to tho right edgo of knitting and bring the needle up through the stitch opposite. Continue in this way, crossing from one side to the other, and taking up one stitch at a time, so that a zigzag thread will run through the seam, and the knitting will bo quite Hat. Oversewing can be employed where edges of the knitting aro quite even so that a stitch from each edge can be taken up together, and in this case the thread must not be drawn up too closely, as there must be play enough to allow tho seam to lie flat when pressed. This will make a series of bar stitches on tho right side, which will not show if knitting silk of the same shado bo used. By this method the seam can be tacked first, so ensuring an oven joint at the hem.
