EIGHTS OF CLUBS
FUNCTIONS ON. PREMISES
The following resolutions were carried at the conference of Associated Clubs yesterday:— (1) That this conference again impresses upon' the Prime Minister tho urgent necessity of an amendment to the Licensing Act embodying the recommendations of the Parliamentary Licensing Committee of 1924.
(2) That the attention of the Prime Minister be called.to the disabilities suffered by club members in being deprived of the right to hold social functions on their own premises at which alcoholic refreshment may be consumed.
(3) That the conference emphatically protests against any attempt being made to coerce Parliament to eliminate the middle issue of the ballot paper in connection with the Licensing PolL (4) That as the question of Continuance of Prohibition is one which is decided by the vote of the electors, this conference protests against the question being made a political test for Parliamentary candidates by the New Zealand Alliance in putting "Prohibition before Party."
(5) That this conference, being desirous of reform, is of the opinion that the Corporate Control proposal provides a sound and practical solution of the liquor qv^tion in New Zealand, and strongly urges that it be submitted to the electors as an issue at future polls.
