A CATHOLIC PROTEST
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) ,
BLENHEIM, This Day. The following resolution was passed at a largely attended meeting of Boman. Catholics last night: "This meeting of Catholics of the Blenheim parish, representative of the Catholic community; of Marlborough, protests stronglyj against the provisions of the BeligiouV Exercises in. Schools Bill, on ths grounds (1) that the BUI, if carried into law, would inflict a grave injustice on Catholics, in New Zealand, since it would require them to contribute to the maintenance of a plan, of religious instruction which is manifestly denominational and is tantamount to the creation of a State religion; (2) that such a departure wonti be a most inequitable violation of tfce rights of Catholics, as citizens and tint payers; (3) that this Bill violates ttte rights of conscience as applied, to Catholic pupils and teachers in State schools, notwithstanding the misnamed conscience clause. This meeting, representing more than a fifth of tfcc electors of the district, request their, representative in Parliament to consi&fej their studied convictions."
